Luminarium took pride in offering annual programming
that benefitted the community at large.
24-HOUR CHOREOFEST
This annual overnight choreography festival was the only one of its kind in the country. Each season, Luminarium selected 5-7 local companies to join them overnight, creating brand new works and producing a show in 24 hours. More info on the program can be found here.
ARTS IN ACTION PROJECT
Luminarium's Arts in Action Project brought professional performing arts experience directly to local youth. Completed annually, the company designed a series of workshops appropriate for Boston's youth participants. Learn more.
PLACE PROJECT
Luminarium regularly partnered with Guerra's PLACE Project (Presenting Landmarks through Artistic Community Engagement), providing performers for its custom-tailored annual events that integrate history, dance, and the arts to celebrate a town’s cultural and historic landmarks. Each season, PLACE Project selects one site (and corresponding town) to become the project's focus. Its 2014 project Night at the Tower was honored with the Massachusetts Cultural Council's prestigious 2015 Gold Star Award. Learn more on PLACE Project's website.
DANCE+ SERIES
Luminarium's popular DANCE+ Series actively traveled across the state since its conception in 2014, and used creative movement as a means of combining dance with other fields, such as Science, Technology, Music, Light, and even Bugs! Read testimonials from parents and students, and watch clips of different classes here.
BACKLIGHT BOSTON
From 2014-16, Luminarium produced a quarterly Backlight Boston web series, interviewing local movers and shakers in the Boston dance scene. The series was hosted by Luminarium Technical Adviser Russell Holman, who spearheaded the series as a way of informing non-dance viewers about the genre, while deepening ties within the local dance community.
